The Tomás March gallery presents from Thursday May the 22nd a series of recent works by basque artist Jose Ramon Amondarain (San Sebastian, 1964) titled “entre, para, por, según”. The title is suggestive of the apparently dispersed and pluristylistic activity of this artist (one of the young creators from the ARTELEKU workshops) who has created artistic modes and essence out of handling the slipperiest territories found between the different materials, subjects and artistic modes, his most fertile field of experimentation.

His work has always been about painting: the representation of painting, of forms and material of paints; of photography transformed by paint or painted over, of industrial painting on canvas, only to mention few of the many manifestations of his artistic work which approaches the very confusion of genres, the difficulty of frontiers, linguistic gliding....

J.R.A. involves painting in an exercise of rigorous self analisys about its own means and training limits excelling the already worn out formalist exposition of the sixties and seventies. In the last few years he has been outlining the complex relation between painting -abstract and figurative- and photography.
JOSE RAMON AMONDARAIN, in this show, plays with the different formal manifestations of his work, and changes them all into supports for painting.

Giving sometimes as a result the convergence -of painting, sculpture, photography, digital print on canvas- into the same artistic object: a three-dimensional painting or a painted sculpture ; a photographic image printed onto canvas whose finish is painting, a painting representing a different scale painting, etc...

JOSE RAMON AMONDARAIN has recently been exhibiting at Galería Elba Benitez of Madrid, 2002 , at Sala Amaia of Irún; at Sala Amárica of Vitoria, 2001; at Koldo Mitxelena of San Sebastian, 2002.
