| Galeria Tomas March is presenting, for the first time in asolo show, the works by photographer José María Mellado (Almería 1966). Under the title NOXIDO,a selection of the most recent picturesare assembledinto two different groups: Natural Landscape and Urban Landscape.
About this first series, Mellado isinvestigating the human marks upon Nature.Nowadays, this mark has becomeinevitableto observewherever the travellersets his eyes in an attempt to contemplate nature. Mellado makes use of the resources of digital photography,he emphasises color tones obtainingpictures of great contrast and definition: their precision brings them neara certainpictorial hyperrealism and their dramatizedlightgives them a stong character of temporality that seems to announce an imminent catastrophy. Images of desolation that attract the spectator with their strange and irresistible beauty. Betweenthe beautifulandthe sublime, the territory captured by his camera makes evident the temporalitythat is today’s distinctive feature of the gender.
The urban landscapes have a lot in common with the first series, as the use of color, the cold tones, the stain grey contrasting withhighly saturated blue, green or ochers obtaininga certainsensation of unrealitywhich, in this series,is underlined by the almost invisiblehuman presence in the scenery of contemporary architecture.
The works of José María Mellado can be found amongst important private and public collections as The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Fundación Vocento (Diario ABC), Fundación Unicaja, Colección de Arte Contemporáneo de La Comunidad de Madrid, Fundación UNED, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo of Cáceres, Caja San Fernando, Colección Gobierno de Cantabria,Fundación Caja El Monte, etc...
