Galeria Tomas March is presenting the most recent work of Valencian artist Ricardo Cotanda (L’Eliana 1963). His works have been shown previously in our gallery in 1993 “Bert”, in 1997 “Tonsuras”, and , in 2001 the “Love Birds” series. In the past years Ricardo Cotanda participated, amongst other exhibitions, in “La Vista y la Vision” in the IVAM (2003), “Violencies” in the Guerricabeitia Bienal (2004) and in “Pintar sense Pintar” in La Panera of Lleida (2005).

The series of works presented today refers to one of the works shown in December 1995 at the Centro del Carmen of the IVAM: a series of garments
under the title of “ Llegar a la Nieve” representing the dowry of the groom in a direct reference to the work of Marcel Duchamp.

Ricardo Cotanda has always made use, for the realization of his works, of the resources of tailoring, using the textures of the different types of materials, cutting and sawing their superpositions, making use of brodery to draw on them. In this way, he creates shapes and sihouettes that are very suggestive for the viewer, works that are three-dimensional and posess a changing condition depending on the direction of the light they receive and the corresponding results of the shadows.
